Wersal, 89, Aitkin, died Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.Dorothy was born Aug.23, 1928, at Sanborn, Minn., the daughter of Charles and Amy (Briggs) Brainerd. She grew up and attended schools in Sanborn and then married Melvin M. Wersal on Sept. 5, 1946, at Sanborn. They lived in Springfield, Elbow Lake, Hibbing, Chisholm, Cook and then Bloomington before moving to Mille Lacs Lake in the late 1970s. She lived there until 2005 when she moved in with her son and then in 2009 moved to the Aicota Health Care Center and has lived there since.She enjoyed sewing, gardening and in her younger days deer hunting and fishing. She loved her cats and dogs. She and her husband had collected aluminum and scrap metal around the Aitkin area and would bring it to the Twin Cities where they would sell it to dealers.She is survived by her son, Jim Wersal; Glen; daughter, Betty Mauer,Bemidji; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Melvin; and two sons, Jerry and Robert.A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. www.srtfuneral.com.
